Layer Groups – Trimble Business Center

Well another great feature which we can take an advantage off in Trimble Business Center is Layer Groups. The secret is in the organization of the layers especially on larger projects where there is a lot of data coming in from filed and going out to field. Also for takeoff purposes where you are able to associate layers with your improvements and or removals.

Layer Groups in Trimble Business Center will let you create layer and assign them into a Layer Groups for better management of visibility in your View Filter Manager. Changing the visibility of Layer Group changes the visibility of the layers associate to the particular group. You are still able to change the visibility of the each layers within a group, also you are able to change layers between the group.

How to create layer group?

In Trimble Business Center head to the Layer Group Manage which can be found under CAD ribbon right next to the Layer Manager. Once the command ribbon is open you can create new or delete existing layer groups. When creating your groups there are few things to consider, for example original ground, finished design, as-builds, monitoring etc.

How to assign layer to layer groups ?

Under Layer manager you will find the column where you are able to choose the desired Layer Group. To get to the layer manager just right click the layer and select layer manager. There are many things you will be able to modify under layer manager like name, color, style, thickness etc. One other option is to make layer locked. This becomes beneficial when you run the Project Cleanup command and forget to un-check the remove non-protected empty layers.

How are the layer groups sorted ?

Once created they will be sorted in your view filter manager numerically in ascending order and then in alphabetic order. What does that really mean is that if you want the layer groups be sorted you can use those two properties to arrange them
