- The following is a list of causes that can make GPS receiver position error increase and therefore exceed the GPS Error Limit.
- Power to the GS receiver was recently applied of cycled
- Satellite tracking has been temporarily disrupted (internal antenna cable or connection)
- Poor satellite geometry due to the GPS constellation or from physical obstructions
- Poor radio coverage
- Radio receiving someone’s else base station corrections
- The machine is a long distance from the base station
- GPS receiver fault
- Incorrect GPS Error Limit set in the machine
- Insufficient satellites
Problem isolation
- Confirm that the power to the GPS receiver is good and that the connectors are secure
- Ensure that the antenna cables are not damaged and that all the connectors are secure with no bent or broken pins
- Check the GPS diagnostics information
- Ensure that the GPS antennas are not obstructed by buildings, trees and so fort
- Verify that, on the data link screen integrity is over 85%. Intermittent or sporadic corrections can result in increased GPS position error.
- Confirm that the GPS Error Limit is set at the correct value.
